Speaking in Tongues; the biblical existance

First of all, I would like to stress that I understand that this is a controversial issue within each denomination. I will summarise and only stress key points of the sermon I attended recently in a specific church in my city.

Two sections will be commented on; first from 1 Corinthians 14:1-25 and secondly from Acts 2:4-12. (NIV version)

1 Corinthians 12:8-11

v10: In this context, Paul is addressing to the church of Corinth. He is telling them of the spiritual gifts, in which the Holy Spirit has blessed us with. ( the list here is just a small part of the many gifts we are blessed with) . There are two gifts which relate to the 'tongues'. One is the speaking of tongues and the other is the interpretation of tongues.

My comments:
'Tongues' in Greek translates to 'languages'. Speaking in tongues means speaking in another language other than your own. In my past experience, I have heard a church in KL (wont mention which) who claim they are speaking in tongues but they are actually muttering gibberish. Next you would think to yourself: "How would this writer (which is me) actually know that what they are speaking is really gibberish? " Well my answer to you is that if you try to shout these words: lalilole in different combinations in a high pitch voice, wouldnt it sound a pure bunch of nonsense to you?

1 Corinthians 14:6-9

Paul stresses here that "speaking in tongues" would not be useful IF there isnt someone with the gift to "interpret tongues".

v13-18:
Paul comments that if one were to 'speak in tongues', he/she would need to carry it out with one mind, body and heart.

v18:
In this context, it looks as if Paul has the gift of speaking in tongues although he only practices it when he is alone.

v19: " I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousands words in a tongue."

From that recent sermon:

As God grants the gift of speaking in tongues, so does the demons. The evil side wants to confuse us and shake our foundations, thus they sent their minions; lil demons, to posess anyone of us to speak in tongues. Anyone who cast their beliefs into them and their prophecy would be thrown into a state of confusion.

So does speaking in tongues still exist?

From a biblical passage ( 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 ), it has slowly died down. The gift was mainly found in the days of the early churches ( 1st century).
Quoting certain parts of passages from 1 Corinthians 13:8-12

v8: where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled
In this verse, it shows signs of 'gifts of prophecy and tongues' slowly decreasing and in the end will be of no more.

v10: when perfection comes, imperfect disappears
When Paul was still in Corinth, there were many imperfections. But this verse was referring to the Bible, when the Bible is completed, the gifts of prophecy and tongues will be of no more. Now that the Bible has been completed, the bible is as it is; perfection. Thus the imperfection disappears, the two gifts mentioned throughout have stopped its foretelling.

So what about the speaking of tongues claimed to exist now?

Prophesying and tongue speaking has disappeared for 1800 years now and yet, it claimed to return back in 1901 in some american college. Why the sudden return? I cannot answer that. It is all due to God's Salvation. We will never fully understand how God works. His salvation and plans are beyond any of ou comprehension.

Important note: Not that I'm saying speaking in tongues or prophesying is bad, but the way it is carried out and its context should be carefully analyzed so that the person with the gift should not go overboard and replace the Bible with his context/foretell-ment.
